Keep Going——ICI Held a Working Conference for the Coming Semester

On the morning of March 7th, ICI held a working conference for the coming semester, during the meeting, professors of ICI discussed the work plan in 2018 in many fields, which including scientific research, international exchange and cooperation and periodical construction. The conference was hosted by An Guiqing, the Deputy Director of ICI, with the participation of all the full-time and part-time researchers.

First, Prof. Ke Zheng reviewed the encouraging achievements that have been made in 2017, and focused on the analysis of the 7 key research projects and working assumption in 2018, which including the evaluation of key awards, the propelling of major projects, the publishing of Springer Series and ICIC International Paper Project, and the construction of international classroom analysis laboratory. Then, Ke talked about the way of optimize the resource allocation, in order to better serve the academic development of ICI. It is commonly acknowledged that even if there exist great challenges, we are confident to achieve more in 2018.

Second, internationalization is a distinctive feature and core strategy of ICI, Assistant Professor Xiao Sihan first introduced the progress of the preparations for the Shanghai International Curriculum Forum in 2018, and discussed with the experts that attended the conference on the theme, style, form and content of the forum this year. Then, Xiao reported on the plans of international exchange activities that ICI is going to hold for the first half of 2018, especially the visit of Prof. Deanna Kuhn from Columbia University in May, and the organization of Shanghai Curriculum Roundtable Forum. What’s more, with the coming of 6th World Curriculum Research Conference held in Melbourne, Xiao called upon everyone to enthusiastically show their research achievement on the international stage.

Third, Prof. Chen Shuangye, the deputy director of ICI, mainly reported on the internationalization of ICI in 2018, she proposed that the internationalization strategy of ICI is more clearly positioned to serve the scientific research, the landmark achievements and the international mainstream influence of Chinese curriculum and teaching research. On one hand, we will continue to run the annual Shanghai International Curriculum Forum to support regular international academic exchanges. On the other hand, with the academic advantages and platform characteristics, we will promote close cooperation with more talented researchers.

The CSSCI journal Global Education sponsored by ICI, is one of the key academic exchange platforms. Professor Liu Lianghua, the deputy editor-in-chief of the editorial department, reported on the working arrangements in the new semester. In order to further improve the academic quality of the periodicals, some new measures are proposed: 1. Exerting the editorial board’s academic influence and strengthen thematic group drafts; 2. Making full use of the advantages of research group in ICI, inviting well-known scholars home and abroad to join the research of the topic and the writing of the series, which will lead to the creation of related works; 3. Increasing the manuscripts of well-known foreign experts and interact with the English version of the ECNU Review of Education to recommend high-quality manuscripts. Respecting the translator’s copyright, the author’s and translator’s name and work unit will presented in a conspicuous position; 4. Enhancing editorial quality and recruit professional editors; 5. Further improve the group discussion and voting system, strengthen the academic quality of published papers.

As for the operation and management of periodicals, the editorial director and deputy head of the editorial department An Guiqing, discussed the development of the periodical, column additions, typesetting, printing, and other issues with other experts and formed a preliminary plan.

Finally, the Director of ICI, Professor Cui Yunhuo, expressed his gratitude for the hard work done in the past year, for example, the curriculum in scientific research achievements, base projects, international exchanges, ICIC database construction, and periodical construction. He looked forward to see the enthusiasm of all the staff in the new year. Keeping the spirit of pioneering and enterprising, working hard and creating a brilliant future.
