Six Students of ICI Attended the 6th World Curriculum Research Conference and Made Special Reports

In 2018, led by Professor Hu Huizhen, ICI successfully applied for the comprehensive reform project of doctoral students training in East China Normal University - "Research and Practice of the Ph.D. Students”. One of the objectives of the project is to support doctoral students to participate in high-level academic conferences and publish academic papers with high-quality at the conference.

From December 8th to 16th, 2018, three Ph.D. students including Wang Yiting, Gao Bo and Liu Qinglong, and three master students, including Zhuang Yanze, Yang Yuhang and Zhong Caifeng, were invited to Melbourne to attend the Sixth World Curriculum Research Conference. They made special reports to the experts and scholars in pedagogy field on the international stage.

The conference was jointly hosted by the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (IAACS), and the Australian Curriculum Study Association (ACSA) and the Australian Association for Research in Educational (AARE). More than 300 curriculum experts from 32 countries and regions around the world have been invited to conduct international academic exchanges. It is the highest level international academic conference in the field of curriculum research.

Brief Introduction of the Special Reports

Wang Yiting, a doctoral student of ICI, made a report on “The Dilemmas of Curriculum Integration in China”, she summarized and explained the pattern classification and difficulties encountered in the current curriculum integration practice.

Gao Bo, a doctoral student of ICI, gave a report entitled “A Comparative Study on the Structure of Primary School Mother-Language Textbooks Between China and Japan”. He started with the textbook structure system, then compared the textbooks in China and Japans.

Liu Qinglong, a doctoral student of ICI, started from the realistic challenges and reasons of the new curriculum reform, made a report themed as “Knowledge Questions and Curriculum Dilemmas in China”. He proposed a concept of knowledge with both certainty and subjectivity to resolve the conflicts during the process of implementing curriculum reform.

Under the guidance of Prof. Wu Gangping, three master students, Zhuang Yanze, Yang Yuhang and Zhong Caifeng, gave a report entitled “The Shifting Conceptions of Knowledge in Contemporary China — Based on the Analysis of Policy”. They divided the changing of knowledge concept since the reform and opening up of China into 4 stages, and discussed the features and dilemmas in each stage respectively.
