2024-04-16

Dr. Li Fuxins lecture focused on history and current situation, integrating materials, viewpoints, narratives and analysis to trace the status of Chinese curriculum in the national curriculum and the setting up of Chinese schools in Australia, and discussed the problems, challenges, and prospects of Chinese courses in modern Chinese schools as well as prospects for cooperation in the field of international Chinese language education. Many teachers and students from the Faculty of Education came to the report site to participate in learning and exchanges. The forum was hosted by Professor Lei Hao from the Department of Curriculum, and teachers from the Department such as An Guiqing, Cui Yunhuo, Wang Xiaoming, Wang Yanling, Yang Chengyu, Zhou Wenye and other teachers participated in the discussion.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Li Fuxin pointed out that China and Australia have different definitions of Chinese education. Chinese education from the Australian perspective is defined as "Chinese education + Chinese teaching + community language". At present, Mandarin has become the second most popular language in Australia after English. Students learning Chinese account for about 33% of the total students, and they are mainly ethnic Chinese.

Subsequently, Dr. Li Fuxin analyzed the development process of Chinese education in Australia since 1818. With the development of time, Chinese education has become more and more important in the Australian education system, forming the principle that schools give priority to Chinese courses under the same conditions. In 1973, the Australian government proposed the concept of "national curriculum", and today the curriculum "Australian National Curriculum: Chinese (Australian curriculum: Chinese)" has developed to the ninth edition.

Then, Dr. Li Fuxin gave an in-depth explanation on the topic of "Chinese Curriculum Setting and Teaching in Australia: A Case Study of Australian Standard Chinese Schools". The Australian Standard Chinese School was officially established in 2003. With the purpose of "promoting Chinese language and culture and prospering Australian multiculturalism", it is committed to providing high-quality Chinese education and has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents.

Dr. Li Fuxin introduced that in terms of curriculum, the school has opened a variety of Chinese education courses for students and adults, focusing on teaching Chinese and supplementing with Chinese talents. In terms of teaching materials, the school has nearly a thousand varieties of Chinese teaching material series. The variety of Chinese teaching materials in a single school is leading the world, among which "Standard Chinese" is the most important teaching material.

This forum helped teachers and students systematically understand the general situation of Chinese education in Australia and the basic appearance of the Chinese curriculum, and broadened their international horizons.
