Delegation of Asia Society visited ICI

Dr. Anthony Jackson, Vice President of Asia Society, Director of the Global Education Center, and Dr. Jeff Wang, Advisor of Asian Society and Director of the China Learning Program, visited the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction on March 22nd . Prof. Cui Yunhuo, Director of ICI, and Dr. Wang Tao met with the delegation in Room 1610, Wenke Building. They exchanged views on the promotion of the Global Competence curriculum in China and the possibility of cooperation between Asia Society and ICI.


Prof. Cui warmly welcomed the visit of the two guests, and then fully affirmed the advanced nature, leadership and professionalism of Asia Society for Global Competence curriculum, especially the concept of global literacy, Graduation Performance System and Course topics and contents. He also presented a variety of cooperation ways to the guests and then answered questions raised by the delegation.


After the talks, the two sides reached a consensus on the localization strategy, cooperative research and cooperation model of global literacy curriculum, and conducted a more in-depth discussion on the feasibility of establishing the Asia Society Center for Global Education, Shanghai. They said that the two sides will strengthen contact and cooperation for the promotion of global competence curriculum in China.



Asia Society is a nonprofit, non-governmental, nonpartisan civil institution founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller. It is headquartered in New York and is the most influential Asian policy research and educational institution in the US and Asia Pacific.

According to OECD official announcement, the 2018 PISA test is considering adding a new assessment -"global competence", to examine the 15-year-old students of the global and cross-cultural sense of knowledge and understanding, the ability to live and learn with people from multiple backgrounds, and the attitudes and values needed to respect others and interact with others.
