The Delegation of ICI Went to the United States and Canada to Share “Chinese Stories”

From April 12th to 20th, Prof. Ke Zheng, Prof. Chen Shuangye, Prof. Yang Xiangdong, Prof. Xu Binyan and postgraduate student Tao Yang were invited to attend a series of international exchange activities in the United States and Canada. They attended the AERA Academic Conference, the press conference of ECNU Review of Education and the annual global recruitment of ECNU. What’s more, they shared “Chinese Stories” with scholars from Columbia University, New York University, University of Kansas, University of Toronto and many other world-renowned universities.

The American Educational Research Association is currently the most influential educational academic conference. It attracts numbers of authoritative educational scholars from all over the world every year. The theme of this year’s conference is “The Dreams, Possibilities and Necessities of Education”. There were totally 25000 scholars from all over the world attended the conference.

On April 14th, Tao Yang, a postgraduate student of ICI, made a report titled “Effects of Teacher Support on Students' Academic Achievement: A Meta-Analysis”. He introduced and illustrated the relationship between teachers’ support and students’ grades.

Prof. Xu Binyan and other delegation members participated in many academic forums such as “Innovation in Learning Opportunity and Mathematics Curriculum” and “Design of Learning Environment Under Technology Support” and introduced the research and practical progress in related fields in China to other attended scholars.

In addition, Prof. Yin Hongbiao, the visiting professor of ICI also made two reports on the comparative study of college students’ learning input and Chinese and Chilean students’ learning.

On April 15th, the delegation of ICI took part in the global launch of the new edition of the ECNU Review of Education (English Edition of East China Normal University Education Review), which was held in New York. Prof. Chen Shuangye, deputy director of the program, was the associate editor of the English periodical. Prof. Chen introduced the background of setting journal to more than 100 scholars, officials, and influential social figures from international organizations such as Columbia University, Stanford University, the United Nations Educational Affairs Department, and Microsoft Education.

The journal is the first English international academic journal in China that has been formally approved by the state and sponsored by domestic universities. The conference was also the first time that domestic colleges and universities debuted on the international stage. China Daily New York Station, Qiaobao, and American Media Education Update attended the conference and reported on the event.

In addition, the latest results of numbers of experts of ICI were published on the first issue of the ECNU Review of Education:

1. “Changes in School Curriculum Administration in China” completed by Cui Yunhuo, Lei Hao and Zhou Wenye.

2. “Calculating the Future: The Historical Assemblage of Empirical Evidence, Benchmarks & PISA” completed by Zheng Lei and Thomas Popkewitz.

3. The paper named “Educating Learners for Their Future, Not Our Past” completed by OECD Education Minister Andreas Schieicher was authorized by the English version of CSSCI’s core journal the Global Education.

On April 14, the delegation of ICI attended the 2018 Annual Global Recruitment Presentation of East China Normal University. At the meeting, the participants and young scholars exchanged their ideas on the education strategy, internationalization, discipline development, and personnel training of ICI, and conducted in-depth exchanges with young researchers interested in finding employment.

During the visit, Prof. Ke Zheng, Prof. Chen Shuangye, Prof. Yang Xiangdong, and Prof. Xu Binyan exchanged views with experts from Columbia University, New York University, University of Kansas, and University of Toronto, they shared the latest research achievements and the reform and practice of Chinese curriculum. The experience and wisdom further expanded the international influence of the institute and reached a series of cooperation intentions, laying the foundation for the continued vigorous promotion of the internationalization of ICI.
