The Research Group of Out-of-school Education Continued to Share Research Results on the International Stage

Out-of-school education (also known as “shadow education”) is not only the focus of our current social attention, but also one of the international academic cutting-edge topics. ICI promptly seized the opportunity to start the research on out-of-school education. The research group is composed of Dr. Zhang Wei, Dr. Liu Junyan and Professor Mark Bray, an international authority on out-of-school education and an outstanding professor in the Department of Education, ECNU. Recently, the group not only completed the first special issue on the theme of out-of-school education in English, but also was invited to attend the 63rd International Conference on Comparative Education (CIES). The group shared the latest research results of out-of-school education as well as the wisdom and experience of out-of-school education in China with many well-known experts and scholars in the field.

The Group Edited ROE's First Special Issue on Out-of-school Education


The special issue, entitled “Private Supplementary Tutoring: Contexts, Patterns, and Developments”, invited the world’s top research groups in this field, and discussed about out-of-school education from the perspectives of institutions, governments, teachers, families, industries, and so on. It made an omni-directional and in-depth analysis of the history and current situation of the development and standardization of out-of-school training, and explored the future development trend of out-of-school training and the whole educational ecology.

The Group Shared the Research Results of Out-of-school Education Research at the CIES Conference


On April 15-18, local time, the 63rd International Conference on Comparative Education (CIES), with the theme of "Education for Sustainability", was held in San Francisco, USA. More than 3600 experts and scholars, representatives of charities and publishing organizations, and government officials from different countries and regions around the world gathered to discuss educational hotspots and exchange academic achievements. Professor Zhang Wei and Doctor Liu Junyan, both from ICI, attended the annual meeting together with Professor Mark Bray of the Department of Education. During this period, Professor Zhang Wei attended and presided over two symposiums on international comparative research in out-of-school education, focusing on out-of-school training in China, India, Myanmar, Japan and other countries. From the macro status quo to micro cases to share the latest achievements of the team with academic bigwigs, experts and scholars in the field.
